Many people are afraid to leave their homes because of their fear of crime. Some believe that more action should be taken to prevent crime, but others feel that little can be done.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Introduction
It is unquestionably accurate that in this day and age, citizens are living in a more dangerous society, particularly with the rise of technological advances in weaponry and cyber theft. These external factors have caused certain members of society to lose hope, nevertheless, there are effective methods that can be taken to reduce crime rates.
Body
One view purports that it is difficult to prevent crime due to the fact that it is inherent in human nature to violate societal laws. It is commonplace to see an abundance of negative stories depicted in the media consisting of violence and a myriad of illegal behaviour. Crime is also perpetrated by the growing gap between the wealthy and impoverished, which forces individuals to become criminals. Due to pessimistic news and deteriorating socio-economic factors plaguing society, it is evident that fear is deeply entrenched in the minds of law-abiding citizens.
In order to diminish the effects of crime on society, as well as the instillation of fear into the psyches of residents, media ought to present news in a more optimistic manner. Government must attempt to bridge wealth disparities by creating fair income redistribution policies or investing more funds into education, particularly in remote areas. It is evident that a larger quantity of police officers patrolling community streets would provide inhabitants with a greater sense of safety.
Conclusion
In my view, crime is a mentality that can either be diminished from the root causes or through rehabilitation of criminals. Although it might be a time-consuming and arduous task, decreasing crime levels is beneficial for all members of society and contributes to a more harmonious neighbourhood.
