今天想跟大家聊一下“火”,没错，就是最简单的那个词fire.但是我想知道，大家真的跟fire足够熟悉了吗？

其实fire是个很多功能的词呢！what？你只知道“开火”，“解雇”？？嘿~not enough!

一．        Just fire away!

A: It’s my turn to ask you some questions. （现在轮到我提问了）

B: Fire away!（问吧！）

(fire away是当对方有疑问时使用的表达方式，表示“问吧”，也是口语中非常常见的表达。Fire away也有疯狂提问的意思，和fire questions at sb.（向某人提出许多质问）是一样的意思)

二．        I’m on fire

相信大家对on fire这个词组已经很熟了，但是on fire还可以表达另一个完全不一样的意思哦：

例1：I’m on fire right now (我现在发展得很顺利)

例2：what？the house is on fire?（什么？家里着火了？）

三．        You set me on fire

例：You set me on fire! Why did you do that to me?!

(set sb. on fire可不是放火烧某人的意思哦，而是让某人很生气之意)

四．        Where’s the fire

Where’s the fire原意是“哪里着火了”的意思，引申为“为什么那么慌张？”

例：Slow down, Tom. Where’s the fire? (慢慢来，Tom.为什么那么慌张？)

五．        I’m fired up, ready to go!

Be fired up是“士气冲天”“狂热”的意思。所以I’m fired up, ready to go!就是说我已经意气风发，做好出去的准备了！

六．        Fire in one’s belly

Belly有腹部，肚子的意思。某人肚子里有火—即“野心”，“热情”的意思。

例：I don’t feel that fire in my belly, you just go to the party without me. (我没有那样的热情，你自己去参加派对吧！)

七．        They get on like house on fire

Like a house on fire的意思是“迅速地”“瞬间地”，想象一下木质的房屋着火的情形就容易理解啦。所以they get on like house on fire的意思就是他们很快就熟悉了,类似的短语还有it was on fire.如：

The police said the thief ran out of the shop like it was on fire。警察说小偷很快就从商店逃跑了

八．        Play with fire

看字面意思我们大家都知道是玩火的意思，不过除此之外，这个短语还有另一个引申义，就是“铤而走险”，“冒险”的意思。

例：I tell you you'll be playing with fire if you go alone into that neighborhood at night（我告诉你，要是你一个人晚上到那个地区去，那你就是在冒险）

play with fire这个俗语不一定是指会造成肉体上的危险。它也可以用在其他方面

例：Any student who tries to cheat in the exam is playing with fire.任何想要在考试中作弊的学生都是冒险

九．        To fight fire with fire

要是从字面来解释，那就是：用火来攻火，这当然是不可能的。实际上，to fight fire with fire就是用你对立面对你用的手法来对待他。也可以说是以其人之道还其人之身或者以牙还牙。

例：The only way they can deal with crime is to fightfirewithfire （他们打击犯罪的唯一方法就是以牙还牙）
